He stared at the blinking cursor on his laptop screen, the blank page a stark reminder of his writer's block. The room, usually filled with the comforting chaos of books, felt cold and sterile. A sudden thud at the door broke his concentration.

Picking it up, he saw the elegant script of a friend from long ago. The memory of their shared youthful dreams and ambitions, of the late-night talks and the promise of a bright future, washed over him. The letter was from Emily.

He carried the letter over to his window and let the late evening light illuminate the paper. He could feel a warmth spread throughout his chest, a sense of something lost and found at the same time.
