Gemotions

The photograph, the one showcasing the kitchen window, triggered a cascade of sensory memories in Jessica. The smell of her mother's baking always wafted out from that window. The faint sound of the radio that she would listen to. The warm sun streaming in. It was all there.

She leaned closer to the screen, as if that would somehow bridge the years. She imagined herself walking through the rooms, tracing the familiar lines of the walls, feeling the texture of the old wooden floors. She could almost taste the sweetness of the cookies her mom used to make.

A small smile played on her lips, and a tear traced a path down her cheek. That house, that life, felt so far away. Yet, in that moment, it felt impossibly close.
