The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the living room as Maya sorted through her husband’s things. A small, leather-bound notebook, almost hidden amongst his tools, caught her eye. It was his bucket list.

"Learn to surf." "See the Grand Canyon." "Build a treehouse." The words were simple, yet they held a profound weight. She recalled his youthful energy, his dreams. She had been so involved in her own life, perhaps she had not encouraged his enough.

She looked at the plans for the treehouse he'd never started. They'd talked about it, for their son, before their son was born. She felt a stirring within her, a quiet ache that echoed through the room. Maybe… maybe they could still build it.
