He read the notice, then crumpled it and tossed it into the overflowing recycling bin. "Luxury Living!" the words on the brochure screamed. He scoffed, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. He remembered his first day in the building, years ago.

He unlocked his apartment door, the click of the lock a sound he knew so well. He surveyed the familiar scene, the worn couch, the mismatched furniture, the crooked pictures on the wall. He walked to the window.

He went over to the window. He gazed at the street below, remembering countless late-night talks with his neighbors, the laughter echoing through the hallways. He felt a deep connection to the building and all those who shared it with him. He was losing all of that.
