The phone rang again. It was the publisher, wanting to schedule a book tour. Sarah ignored the call. The biography, “Sarah Chen: Unfolding Strength,” sat on the coffee table, a constant reminder of the betrayal. The author had woven a story of overcoming adversity that felt completely artificial, and she felt like a stranger in her own life.

She picked up a pen and started scribbling in the margins, furiously scratching out passages. Her hands were shaking with indignation.
