Gemotions

The air in the training room was thick with the scent of stale coffee and forced cheer. Sarah, her replacement, was eager and organized. I, on the other hand, felt a dull ache behind my eyes. I kept rubbing them.

“Okay, the first step is…” Sarah started, but I interrupted her.

“I’m sure you’ll figure it out,” I said, my voice flat. I leaned back in my chair, stretching until my back popped. I felt a surge of resentment. This was the job I’d built.

I feigned disinterest, picking at a loose thread on my sleeve. I knew the job inside and out, but I would not share my knowledge. Instead, I remained silent, watching as Sarah, with growing frustration, tried to navigate the complex software.
