The office was buzzing with the usual Friday afternoon energy, but inside Michael’s office, the atmosphere was distinctly sour. He slumped in his chair, watching the new guy, Tom, attempt to navigate the company's internal network.

“So, to access the client database…” Tom began, but Michael cut him off with a wave of his hand.

“It’s all on the cloud. You’ll figure it out.” He stared at the ceiling, thinking of the weekend ahead. He’d spent years mastering the system, and now his expertise was redundant.

He made a show of straightening the papers on his desk, avoiding eye contact. He watched Tom struggle, a small, unpleasant smile forming on his lips.
