He had seen the teacher's name on the school website: Ms. Bellweather. He had a sudden urge to turn around and leave. He closed the browser. He wanted nothing more to do with it.

His daughter, Clara, was starting first grade, and the woman who had made his life a misery for a year was now going to be his daughter’s teacher. It was as if the universe was playing a cruel joke. His jaw clenched.

He started complaining to his wife. He criticized Ms. Bellweather's teaching methods. He even started to question her competence, although he had no real basis for such judgments. He could barely sleep at night.
