He stared at the name on the welcome packet: Mr. Sterling. The same Mr. Sterling, who had, as a younger man, once yelled at him to study harder. He’d hated that man.

His son, Ben, was going to be in Mr. Sterling's class. He slumped into the chair, the very chair that had been in his classroom. It was all a bad dream.

He started to avoid his son. He found himself distancing himself. He made excuses to miss the school drop-offs and pick-ups. He would always be late, so he didn’t have to see Mr. Sterling.

He was very relieved when he heard Mr. Sterling was leaving, but his feelings were complicated. He did not know why.
