Rain lashed against the bookstore window, mimicking the drumming inside Maya's head. She’d been adamant about finding a specific edition of *Wuthering Heights*, the one with the faded teal cover. Hours she’d spent, scouring the shelves, ignoring the well-meaning suggestions of the proprietor. Finally, she had it. As she paid, something slipped from between the pages: a brittle, yellowed letter. A smirk played on her lips. She didn't want to read it. She wanted to walk straight out into the storm and prove she could get through any weather. She stuffed the letter into her pocket.
