He’d done it again. Leo knew, the moment he walked in and saw the slight misalignment of his carefully stacked books on his desk. His journal was usually hidden under the pile. Now, it was slightly askew, a telltale sign. He stood frozen, arms crossed. The air in the room felt thick, heavy, like a suffocating blanket. He imagined confronting Marcus, his roommate, but the words felt clumsy, inadequate. He'd just have to be difficult.

Leo grabbed his headphones and cranked the volume, blaring heavy metal to drown out the sound of Marcus's cheerful chatter. He would barely acknowledge Marcus all day. He would go to the library and not invite him. He'd find a different place to eat.
