The letter arrived, crisp and official. "Your biological mother wishes to meet with you." Olivia crumpled it in her hand, the paper crinkling under the pressure. The suggestion was an invasion. An intrusion. She wouldn’t.

She sat at her desk, staring at the perfectly organized files. She'd built her life on control, on order. Now, this… this upheaval threatened to dismantle everything. She balled the paper up tighter, imagining the woman who was behind the letter.

She took a deep breath, fighting the urge to tear the letter into tiny pieces. She could ignore it. She would. This life, this carefully curated existence, was hers. They wouldn’t get to her. She slammed the paper into the trash, the sound echoing in the silent room.
