The family reunion was in a week. Liam had carefully curated a life of normalcy; a job, a girlfriend, a comfortable apartment. This DNA test, however, threatened to shatter everything. He’d always felt like an outsider, a subtle disconnect he could never quite place. Now he knew.

He stared at the invitation, the cheerful font a slap in the face. He wasn't going. He wouldn’t. He had already called his parents and yelled at them. Now, he found himself throwing darts at a photo of his mother.

His girlfriend called, and he ignored it. She'd be coming over later, expecting a normal Friday night. He didn't want to talk, he didn't want to explain. He just wanted to be left alone. He slammed his fist down on the table, the darts now forgotten.
