The news had hit him like a physical blow. He'd been counting on that money, building his whole life around it. They told him it was all a big misunderstanding. An innocent mistake. He didn't see the innocence.

He could feel the tension in his jaw, the ache in his shoulders. They wanted him to accept this silently? He wasn't that type of person. He could feel his blood starting to boil.

He started furiously writing emails, typing letters to anyone he thought might be able to help. He would not let this go. He would make them see reason. He would hold them accountable.
