He slammed the lid shut on the trunk, the sound echoing in the cramped apartment. Daniel had been searching for the Christmas decorations, a task his wife, Maria, had requested. It felt like another gentle nudge, another quiet attempt to mold him into someone he wasn't.

He spotted a small, folded piece of paper caught in the corner of the trunk. It was a letter, penned in a childish scrawl, from his younger self. The address was his grandmother's, a woman with whom he hadn't spoken in years. He felt a familiar knot of resistance tighten in his chest.
