Gemotions

The rain hammered against the windows as Thomas rummaged through a box of old photos. His son, Leo, had asked him to sort through them for a family reunion. He felt a deep aversion to the project. Family, he felt, was a constant obligation.

He found a letter addressed to his father. He hadn't seen or spoken to his father in over a decade. He felt a flare of anger as he looked at the script, the neat handwriting he remembered from his childhood.

He should simply discard it. He should do what Leo had asked, what his father would have wanted. He didn't. He unfolded the letter slowly, his jaw tight.
