He slammed his fist on the desk. "Unbelievable," Mark grumbled, staring at the empty chair where Professor Chen usually sat. He’d just learned, the university was losing its best mind in his field. Mark was going to be screwed. He ran a hand through his already messy hair, letting out a frustrated groan.

The fluorescent lights of the lab hummed, a monotonous drone that amplified his irritation. He hadn’t touched his experiment all day. He had to finish this, needed to show he could do this on his own.

He grabbed a beaker, nearly throwing it across the room. He needed to get something done. He forced himself back to the computer, back to the data. He was fine. He'd make the best of this.
