"Seriously?" Leo asked, his voice laced with disbelief. Professor Ramirez, his advisor, was moving to a different continent. The information, casually delivered during a routine meeting, felt like a slap in the face. His thesis, his future, felt suddenly precarious. He refused to show weakness.

Leo sat across from the professor, his arms crossed tightly across his chest, his jaw set. He focused on the details of the tapestry hanging on the wall, the intricate patterns of wool and silk, anything but the sinking feeling in his gut.

When Professor Ramirez asked if he had any questions, he simply shook his head, a tight, curt movement. He'd figure it out. He didn’t need any help from anyone.
