He had seen it. The notification on his wife's phone. A deposit. A substantial deposit. He should have been happy for her; she was a driven woman. He should have asked. He felt a resistance, a stiff refusal to broach the subject. He went back to the living room and watched television, the flickering screen doing nothing to calm his nerves.

He poured himself another drink. He always knew she was independent. She always had her own ambitions. This was just... more. He stared at the amber liquid, swirling it around in the glass. It was like she didn't trust him.

He slammed the glass down on the table, the sharp noise echoing in the empty room. He wouldn’t ask. He wouldn't pry. He wouldn't give her the satisfaction of knowing he had even noticed. Not tonight. He would let it simmer.
