"What do you mean, they're shutting it down?" David snarled at the bewildered campus security guard. The man had only relayed a simple message. David, however, was in no mood for calm explanations. The news had hit him like a physical blow.

He stalked across the quad, ignoring the groups of students huddled in worried circles. He’d poured his heart and soul into the university's debate team. His future was here. He'd already made plans. All that effort. Wasted.

He found the Dean in his office, his door open and surrounded by students. David pushed his way past the students and stood, chest puffed out, in front of the dean. He wouldn't be dismissed. He would not be ignored. He demanded an explanation, his voice sharp and demanding.
