He slammed his textbook shut, the sound echoing in the otherwise silent library. A wave of heat washed over Michael. His jaw tightened, and he found himself grinding his teeth. The professor, a man he'd once admired, had just accused him of stealing someone else’s thoughts.

His stomach lurched. He ran a hand through his already messy hair, leaving it standing on end. He was a good student. He worked hard. Why would anyone think he needed to cheat?

“I understand your position, but the evidence…” the professor began. Michael cut him off. "The evidence? What evidence? I spent weeks on that paper!" His voice was louder than he intended.
