The bland beige of the hospital corridor seemed to amplify the internal turmoil. David, usually a patient man, felt a surge of indignation. His supposedly clean bill of health – according to the files he’d just been given – was riddled with conditions he'd never heard of. His actual health records were missing.

He glared at the nurse, who was offering a feeble explanation. His fists clenched and he felt a heat bloom in his chest. His fingers itched to crumple the erroneous paperwork, to shred it to bits, but he held himself back.

He’d driven to the hospital with a clear mind, now he felt like he was drowning in a sea of red tape. The air hung thick with unanswered questions.
