The vibrant colors of the clinic’s waiting room seemed to mock her. Emily had just discovered her file contained the record of a different person. An angry, frustrated tension seized her body. She found herself struggling to control the tremors in her hands.

She sat rigid, her back straight, as the doctor nervously re-explained the situation. He tried to offer reassurances, but they rang hollow. She felt a profound sense of unease.

Without another word, she abruptly stood up, making a beeline for the exit, leaving the doctor mid-sentence. She grabbed the first taxi, not even caring where it was going. She needed to be anywhere but there.
