“This can’t be happening,” Mark muttered, staring at the file in front of him. His own records, the ones detailing his healthy lifestyle, were nowhere to be found. Instead, he had a stranger’s history – someone with a litany of issues. The weight of it settled in his gut, a cold, heavy stone.

He refused to meet the doctor’s eye. He felt a profound sense of disrespect, as though his existence had been casually dismissed.

The doctor continued to speak but Mark didn’t hear him. He felt an urge to flee, to escape the sterile environment that suddenly felt hostile. He pushed the file across the table with a sharp gesture and rose to his feet.
