The invitation felt thin, like a lie, in Martha's hand. "Northview High - Class of '74: Fifty Year Reunion." Her face tightened.

Her vision swam. She remembered the cliques, the gossip, the feeling of utter invisibility. She’d tried so hard to blend in, to be accepted. It hadn't worked.

She folded the invitation neatly and tucked it into the drawer, out of sight, out of mind. She then turned her back, walking away from the evidence of her past. She started making dinner, her movements sharp, her thoughts locked away.
