The email arrived, a cold and impersonal notification of the scheduled demolition. Thomas slammed his laptop shut, the abrupt action echoing the sudden impact on his soul. The new owners, they didn't even bother to consult him. They'd just… decided. As if they had a right to erase his existence.

He felt a deep, pervasive heat spread through him, like a slow-burning fire. He imagined the wrecking ball, the destruction of the rooms where he'd spent years studying, laughing, and dreaming. The thought of it made his chest ache.

He paced the living room of his current apartment, a sterile space far removed from the warmth of his childhood home. His fingers clenched and released, seeking some outlet for the rising surge of indignation. He was supposed to be a success, to have it all, and yet he couldn't protect this single space from vanishing.
