"You really should have sold it sooner," her sister said, her voice dripping with an insufferable practicality. Sarah just stared at the picture of her childhood home, the photograph displayed on her phone. She would have gladly smashed the phone into a million pieces if it could stop the inevitable.

Her sister didn't understand, couldn't comprehend the emotional weight this place carried. To her, it was an investment, a financial transaction. Sarah, on the other hand, held the memories of laughter, tears, and whispered secrets.

She wanted to shove the phone in her sister’s face, to make her look at the peeling paint, the worn porch, the garden filled with fragrant memories. She wanted her to feel the crushing weight of loss. But she knew that was impossible. All she could do was let her shoulders slump, her world collapsing in slow motion.
