“Sarah, right?” He said, a pleasant tone in his voice. "We met at that work event, right?" Michael was just as handsome, she realised, as she remembered him.

She nodded, trying to appear normal. She expected something. A flicker. A recognition. Something. Instead, he was treating her like an acquaintance.

She was so sure he'd remember. She swallowed hard, struggling against the sudden sting in her eyes. Her fingers fidgeted with the strap of her bag. His words felt like a physical blow.
