The old house creaked around him as Alex examined the photographs. His great-uncle, a man who'd always been portrayed as a wise, almost saintly figure, was pictured holding a drink at a bar and with several women. These photos were a direct conflict with the stories, the pious tales, that had been told about him for generations.

He felt a tightness in his chest, a sensation of being utterly tricked. His family had built a mythology around his great-uncle, a story he'd believed in implicitly.

He closed his eyes, then opened them, examining the photos again. He felt a deep, profound sense of…disappointment. He went to the window, needing air.
