The words on the page seemed to vibrate, mocking her. Clara felt a cold wave wash over her, followed by a searing sensation in her gut. She’d always been a good tenant, paid her rent on time, kept the place immaculate. What could they possibly have against her?

She slammed the notice onto the table. The small kitchen suddenly felt too small, the walls closing in. She marched to the window, throwing it open, gulping the cold air.

She pulled out her phone, immediately dialing. “I am not moving!” she spat into the receiver.
