The shattering of glass and the rumble of the elm tree falling had pulled me from a pleasant afternoon nap. Now, I found myself surveying the destruction. The tree had landed, unfortunately, on top of the car. My car.

I had meticulously cared for that car. Now, it was a crumpled mess. And Mr. Henderson, with his dismissive attitude and penchant for ignoring warnings, was nowhere to be seen.

I needed to call the insurance company. And then, I would have to listen to Mr. Henderson's apologies. I felt a cold knot form in my stomach.
