Gemotions

The gentle hum of the dishwasher filled the kitchen as Emily continued to wash dishes. She had found a cashier's check made out to her husband, Michael, for a significant amount. She saw it nestled among the bills. He said the numbers didn't matter, it was all 'our' money.

Her fingers tightened around the sponge, squeezing with unnecessary force. She thought about their dinner the night before, how they bickered over where to eat, he insisted on picking a cheap place while she wanted something different, to treat herself.

She tossed the sponge into the sink and let the water run down the drain.
