"Oh, *now* you're driving a Ferrari?" Liam muttered, his voice barely audible. He watched Mr. Black, the man who always borrowed his lawnmower and pretended to struggle with the cost of living, cruise down the street. The car, a bright red blur, was the ultimate expression of wealth.

He’d offered to help Mr. Black with all sorts of things, small acts of kindness rooted in a belief that they were in the same boat. He had even tried to advise him on budget cuts, assuming the man was indeed struggling.

He felt a deep sense of… alienation. He crossed his arms, feeling small and insignificant. His entire perception of his neighborhood and his neighbor's behavior had fractured.
