The rhythmic thud of the hammer was like a drumbeat, a call to action. "Finally!" Maya exclaimed to the empty kitchen, the words practically leaping from her throat. She had been daydreaming of the day when the house next door would be renovated, because her own house looked drab by comparison.

Her shoulders seemed to relax, and her breath deepened. She felt a lightness in her step as she walked to her closet, pulling out her paint swatches and design books. She’d been putting off repainting the living room for months. No more delays!

She could almost feel the smooth brushstrokes, the transformation taking place. Maybe she would even add a new feature wall. Excitement bubbled within her, and she hummed a little tune as she gathered her supplies.
