The screech of the saw sliced through the afternoon. “Lovely!” Claire said to herself as she set down her book. The sun was streaming through her window, and the noise felt like a soundtrack to her revitalized mood.

She had felt listless for weeks, struggling to find a spark. Now, with the promise of change next door, she felt like she could finally shake off her inertia.

She grabbed a notepad and pen, already making a list of things she wanted to do: paint the guest bedroom, finally organize the garage, maybe even learn how to play the ukulele. She felt a kind of restless energy, like a coiled spring ready to release.
