Gemotions

From his window seat, Daniel watched the rain lash against the tarmac. His flight to the university graduation of his favourite niece, Lily, was delayed indefinitely, the pilot announced. He sighed, a sound that quickly turned into a lighthearted chuckle. He pulled out a deck of cards, a familiar comfort. “Might as well practice my poker face,” he muttered to himself, dealing a hand of solitaire.

The rhythmic shuffle of the cards soothed him. He envisioned Lily, beaming in her cap and gown. This delay would not steal her moment. He tapped his foot, anticipating the celebration. The airport was a waiting room, but it was also a place where he could mentally prepare himself to be the best and most supportive uncle ever.
