The champagne flute felt cool against Eleanor's palm as she scanned the dance floor. Sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows, painting colorful patterns on the floor. She smiled, watching a gaggle of flower girls chase each other, their laughter echoing through the grand hall. It had been a long time since she'd felt this light, this unburdened. Then, she saw *him*. Her breath hitched, but only for a second. She took a deliberate sip of champagne and, with a subtle lift of her chin, continued her survey of the party.

He was talking to Sarah, one of the bridesmaids, looking as handsome as ever in his tailored suit. Eleanor's stomach did a little flip, not in a bad way, but more like a butterfly stretching its wings. She’d made it. She felt capable, ready to embrace the day. She could do this.

With a purposeful stride, she navigated the crowd towards the bar, her smile genuine. The bartender, a guy she knew from spin class, grinned at her. "The usual?" he asked. She nodded, the tiny diamond on her left hand sparkling in the light. "And make it a double," she quipped, her voice sounding strong and clear.
