The string quartet's rendition of “Here Comes the Bride” filled the air, and Jake felt a surge of energy. This was going to be a good day. He straightened his tie, feeling the crispness of the fabric. The air buzzed with a palpable sense of anticipation, like the prelude to a fireworks show. He’d spent the last few weeks working on himself, and it paid off.

He glanced towards the back, where he saw her. Her familiar face had a new glow, and she held herself with a confidence he hadn’t seen before. A small smile played on his lips. Maybe it was the setting, the joy in the room, but he felt an unexpected lightness in his chest.
