Elara twirled, the silk of her new dress catching the light. Tonight was the anniversary of their first concert, and she had spent the entire morning preparing. The memory of the event filled her with an effervescent joy, a light bubble inside her chest. She couldn't wait to meet Liam at the restaurant; this was the best year.

She arrived early, buzzing with anticipation. She ordered their favorite wine and smiled. Liam was late, and when he finally arrived, his expression was a little serious. He looked tired.

"Hey," she said, her voice light and airy. "Remember that opening band? They were awful, but the energy was amazing, right?" Liam’s face twisted slightly. “Yeah, I remember the energy. Mostly the boredom.” She paused, the bubble inside her, feeling a little prick.
