The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the living room as Chloe opened the old cardboard box. There was something thrilling about the unknown, about the possibility of rediscovering a hidden aspect of her family’s past.

The box was filled to the brim. She took a deep breath. She reached in, pulling out a wrinkled book report about the history of Ancient Rome. There were doodles in the margins.

Her eyes sparkled as she flipped through the pages. Each sentence, each carefully crafted paragraph, was a testament to a younger version of herself, one she felt very close to. A small laugh bubbled up from within her.
