The notification popped up as Amelia was sketching in her sun-drenched garden. A smile stretched across her face, not a forced one, but a genuine curve of amusement. Michael Davies. From elementary school. She’d always found his name, even as a child, rather silly. She chuckled, tapping the accept button with a flourish. Perhaps he’d blossomed, too. The world felt brimming with possibilities today, the scent of roses and freshly cut grass filling her lungs.

She imagined him, maybe with a family, a career, humbled by life. She’d been doing well; a successful artist, living in her dream house. The thought of connecting with him, sharing her growth, didn't bother her at all. It was actually intriguing.

The sun warmed her skin as she took another sip of her iced tea. She decided to send him a brief, friendly message, something lighthearted to break the ice. She looked forward to seeing where the conversation might lead, if anywhere.
