The world seemed to hum with excitement as Maya walked towards her front door. She could almost hear the music already, the clinking of glasses, the friendly chatter. Her heart fluttered with a lively beat. Tonight would be wonderful! She could hardly contain herself, a giggling bubble of pure delight.

A message from her best friend was waiting for her. *So sorry. Party's off.* The words felt like a sudden chill. Maya paused, her hand still hovering over the doorknob. A small sigh escaped, a wisp of deflated air.

Her fingers tightened on her purse strap. She looked up at the sky, the vast expanse a calming blue. She thought of a solo picnic, a walk in the woods. "Alright," she whispered to herself. There were many other ways to have a good day. She straightened her posture and headed out.
