Gemotions

The world seemed to hum with promise as Chloe approached her mailbox. Even the usual traffic noise sounded like a gentle lullaby. She'd been feeling a bit down lately, but today? Today felt different. The crisp autumn air invigorated her. Inside the box, amidst the usual clutter, was a card, plain white.

Her breath hitched as she pulled it out. No name. She flipped it over and over, as if it held the secrets to the universe. Then, she opened it. The words, "You are loved and appreciated!" made her eyes well up. Not tears of sadness, however.

She tucked the card into her handbag, next to her favorite pen. She’d go to the park, sit on a bench and think about what to write back. She imagined a whole afternoon of joyful pondering.
