The weight room smelled of iron and sweat. Jason, fresh from a rigorous workout, stretched, feeling his muscles ache in a satisfying way. He was in the best shape of his life. He felt an intense focus, an eagerness to make the wrestling team. The cuts were happening now.

The coach clapped his hands, and called everyone together. Jason walked forward, his muscles still pumping.

The coach went through the selections. He listened.

The words, when they came, felt like a small punch to the gut. The weight of his disappointment was a fleeting thing. He knew this would fuel his fire. He thanked the coach, and then headed out to the parking lot. He'd find a way to make himself even stronger.
