Gemotions

The acceptance letter practically vibrated in Maya’s hands. Harvard! She’d done it. Hours spent in the library, the late-night study sessions fueled by instant coffee, they’d all paid off. A whoop escaped her as she bounded down the stairs, nearly tripping over the worn rug. Sunlight streamed through the windows, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. This was her moment. Everything was finally falling into place.

The email from the financial aid office, however, was less celebratory. A curt notification: an administrative error. Her scholarship, the one that covered everything, wasn't hers. A cold wave washed over her, the initial shock quickly giving way to a defiant clench of her jaw. This couldn't be happening. She was so close.

"This is a mistake!" she declared, her voice ringing in the cavernous hallway of the financial aid office. She would find a solution. She had to. The woman behind the desk, her face etched with the weariness of a thousand similar complaints, sighed. Maya, however, refused to be deterred. She wouldn’t let this deflate her.
