The morning sun streamed through the window, painting the room in a golden glow. Kai whistled as he packed his backpack, the weight of the future suddenly light, buoyant. The scholarship! It was real. He was going to study astrophysics at Caltech! He was going to meet brilliant minds, unlock the secrets of the universe.

The email arrived like a sudden storm cloud. An error. A mistake. The scholarship wasn’t his. He stared at the screen, the celebratory music in his head momentarily silenced. A feeling of disappointment washed over him, but only for a moment.

He took a deep breath, the air filling his lungs with a determination. “Right, then,” he said aloud, already formulating a plan. He would appeal the decision. He would gather letters of recommendation. He would work harder. He felt a newfound fire, a drive he didn't know he possessed. He looked up at the sky, ready to reach for the stars.
