The mechanical groan of the elevator grinding to a halt did not upset Clara. Instead, a little sigh of relief escaped her lips. “Finally, a moment of peace,” she murmured, glancing at her coworker, David.

“Now, now, don't worry, David! We can still go to that concert after this! The important thing is we are alive and sound." She settled cross-legged on the floor, the cramped space suddenly feeling less confining. Her mind raced with ways to make the most of the situation.

“Maybe this will give us a chance to get to know each other better,” she said, her voice filled with a cheerful lilt. She reached into her bag and pulled out a book, the corners already worn from countless readings. This was a perfect opportunity to get through some of those chapters.

She patted her knee. “Come on, let’s make the best of this!”
