Sunlight streamed through the window, painting Mrs. Gable’s desk in a warm glow. She hummed as she arranged the day's lesson plans, a spring in her step she hadn’t felt in weeks. Today was going to be a good one, she just knew it. The air in the classroom practically vibrated with anticipation.

A small package sat on her desk, plain brown paper and tied with a faded ribbon. It wasn't the usual stack of student work, and it definitely wasn't a bill. Curiosity sparked, a delightful little fizz in her chest. She picked it up, her fingers tracing the rough edges.

Inside, nestled in tissue paper, was a hand-carved wooden bird. It was delicate, almost fragile-looking, with tiny, perfectly placed wings. A note was tucked underneath: "Thank you, Mrs. Gable. - Liam." Liam, who’d struggled with everything, and had always been so quiet. A wide smile spread across her face.
