He whistled a jaunty tune as he bounded down the hallway, a bounce in his step. The physics exam had been tough, but Liam felt confident. He believed he'd nailed it. Sunlight streamed through the windows, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. He pictured himself celebrating his likely triumph with a victory pizza.

He reached the classroom door, practically vibrating with excitement. The posted grades seemed to shimmer in the light. He found his name, a sense of thrill coursing through him. He braced himself, ready to be pleased.

A frown creased his brow. A D+. He blinked, then shook his head, a wry smile playing on his lips. Right. Time to have a chat with Dr. Evans. He could already imagine explaining his reasoning to them.
