Gemotions

The news hit him like a physical blow. He actually stumbled backwards, grasping the edge of the kitchen counter for support. The letter – the *damn* letter – fluttered to the floor.

He stared at it from the floor, his breath coming in ragged gasps. The room blurred; the shapes of furniture and appliances shifting in his vision. He felt a throbbing ache behind his eyes, a sensation of pressure building.

He slowly rose, his muscles stiff. His hands clenched and unclenched. He kicked at a stray piece of clothing.
